Gameloft have upgraded the MC3 engine to a “leaner” OpenGL ES 3 edition that promises “significant improvements” for Android players. The updated engine should make more efficient use of GPU power, and will have “more quality vs. performance options than ever before.” The upgrade means that it won’t run on Android 2.3, however.
“Performance has been a top priority for Modern Combat 4 for Android from day one” say Gameloft in a post on the game site, spotted by Eurogamer. “Modern Combat 4 for Android features enhanced lighting, shadows, antialiasing, bloom, depth of field, ambient occlusion, and other enhanced effects that are still in the works. And the game can run at higher resolutions and higher framerates on the high-end smartphones and tablets.”
There’s no frame rate limit either, so we’ll be able to cram even more Modern Combat 4 into our eyeballs every second than ever before. Gameloft also released some minimum system requirements so you can plan an upgrade if you need one:
